Bandung, September 27, 2026 – Continuing the OBAGI Medical Lunch & Learn: Advancing the Science of Skin Health series, OBAGI Medical Indonesia once again brought scientific education to the dermatology community in Bandung through a collaboration with PERDOSKI Bandung. This session focused on hyperpigmentation, exploring the evolving understanding of pigmentation and current approaches to its management.
The event featured two keynote speakers, dr. Diah Puspitosari, Sp.D.V.E., Subsp.D.K.E., FINSDV., FAADV and dr. Adhimukti Tathyahita Sampurna, Sp.D.V.E., Subsp.O.B.K., FINSDV., FAADV, and was moderated by dr. Adv. Sri Dwiyanti, Sp.D.V.E., S.H., M.H., FINSDV., FAADV.

During the session titled Hyperpigmentation Update: Current Perspectives and Emerging Approaches, dr. Diah discussed how hyperpigmentation, particularly melasma, can be influenced by multiple factors.
“Hyperpigmentation, particularly melasma, is not simply about pigment production in the skin. Various factors can contribute to the condition, which means that treatment approaches should also be tailored to each patient’s individual needs. Skin protection from sunlight, including visible light, is one of the important aspects to consider in helping maintain treatment outcomes over the long term,” explained dr. Diah Puspitosari, Sp.D.V.E., Subsp.D.K.E., FINSDV., FAADV.

In its management, hydroquinone and triple therapy combinations remain among the commonly used options. However, evolving treatment approaches have also introduced non-hydroquinone alternatives, such as Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin, which may be considered across different skin types.
Continuing the discussion from a clinical practice perspective, dr. Adhimukti Tathyahita Sampurna, Sp.D.V.E., Subsp.O.B.K., FINSDV., FAADV, through the session Managing Hyperpigmentation: Clinical Cases and Practical Insights, highlighted the importance of tailoring treatment approaches to each patient’s condition.
“Every patient has different skin conditions and needs, so the management of hyperpigmentation cannot be approached in the same way for everyone. In clinical practice, we may consider a combination of treatments, including topical agents, sun protection, and procedures depending on the patient’s condition. Equally important is maintaining treatment consistency and educating patients so that results can be sustained over the long term,” said dr. Adhimukti Tathyahita Sampurna, Sp.D.V.E., Subsp.O.B.K., FINSDV., FAADV.

In line with the discussion on a more comprehensive approach to hyperpigmentation management, OBAGI Medical introduced the NU-DERM FX® System, a skincare system designed to help improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. Formulated with 7% Arbutin and Vitamin C as key ingredients, the system works through a complementary approach to help promote a more even-looking, brighter, and healthier complexion over time.
Through the OBAGI Medical Lunch & Learn: Advancing the Science of Skin Health series, OBAGI Medical, exclusively distributed by idsMED Aesthetics Indonesia, continues to support knowledge exchange and scientific discussions with the dermatology community across Indonesia. Following Bandung, the roadshow will continue to several other cities, including Makassar, Medan, and Surabaya, bringing further discussions on advances in science and approaches to supporting skin health.
